چکیده

RESULTSdDuring an average of 2.6 years of follow-up, 153 men (18.4%) and 199 women (16.4%) developed metabolic syndrome. In multivariable-adjusted models, the odds ratio for incident metabolic syndrome comparing the highest with the lowest quartiles of adiponectin levels was 0.25 (95% CI 0.14–0.47) in men and 0.45 (0.28–0.74) in women. While serum adiponectin did not improve the area under the ROC curve for predicting new-onset metabolic syndrome based on information from metabolic syndrome components, the net reclassification improvement and the integrated discrimination improvement of prediction models including adiponectin were significantly higher compared with those of models not including adiponectin among men, with a significant difference between men and women (P = 0.001).

Response to Comment on: Kim et al. Prospective Study of Serum Adiponectin and Incident Metabolic Syndrome: The ARIRANG Study. Diabetes Care 2013;36:1547–1553

We thank Dr. Kawada (1) for his comments in response to the ARIRANG study findings on the predictive ability of adiponectin for metabolic syndrome (2). Dr. Kawada raised concerns about the appropriateness of logistic regression because there was some variability in the follow-up times of study participants even though the follow-up period was relatively short (median 2.4 years, interquartile ra...

The relationship between shift work and metabolic syndrome: a prospective cohort study

Background: Metabolic syndromes have been identified as a major risk factor for people with cardiovascular disease. Metabolic syndromes are defined as a range of conditions including waist-fat, abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, high triglycerides, and HDL. Considering the importance of controlling metabolic syndrome, the research study subject with the mentioned aim is so import...

In Vitro Maturation of Oocytes in Women at Risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome-A Prospective Multicenter Cohort Study

Objective In vitro maturation (IVM) is an artificial reproductive technology in which immature oocytes are harvested from the ovaries and subsequently matured in vitro. IVM does not require ovarian hyperstimulation and thus the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is avoided. In this multicenter prospective cohort study we assessed the live birth rate per initiated in vitro maturati...

Serum Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 and New-Onset Metabolic Syndrome: KoGES-ARIRANG Study

PURPOSE Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is a crucial metabolic regulator, with multiple favorable effects on glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism. Since serum FGF21 level has been implicated as a potential marker for the early identification of metabolic syndrome (MetS), we investigated the association between serum FGF21 level and the development of MetS in a population-based prospecti...
